NIE Number Services

Spanish law requires foreign nationals to obtain an NIE number (Número de Identificación de Extranjeros) in order to carry out many official and financial transactions in Spain.

You will need an NIE number for activities such as buying or selling property, applying for a mortgage, purchasing a vehicle, paying taxes and completing a wide range of administrative procedures.

NIE Application ProcessThe processing time for an NIE application can vary depending on the time of year, the number of applications being handled and the region of Spain in which you apply.
There are several ways to apply for an NIE number. One of the most common methods is applying in person at the Immigration Office within a Police Station.

Documents Commonly RequiredWhen applying in person, you will usually need:
  • Valid passport (original and copy)
  • Completed official application forms
  • One passport-sized photograph
  • Payment of the relevant administration fee
  • Documentation proving the need for an NIE number, such as a mortgage approval, property contract or other official paperwork

Passport – original and copy.
One passport photo.
Administration fee – 9.84 €.
